Digi Doodles Studios

Come and join us at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'Anything Goes'
and the sponsor for this challenge is Digi Doodle Studios with $15 gift certificate for the Store

This is our last challenge of 2020 at I ❤️Promarkers so I could not resist a Christmas card from us all in this fabulous DT, a great bunch of ladies with the most awesome leader - thank you Ginny for all you do.

For my card I printed and masked the image Orzus-Gifts by Digi Doodles.  I used Distress Inks for the background, white embossing powder for the snow ground and snowflakes.  The image was then coloured with Promarkers and the sentiment stamped in black ink.  I scanned the DP I wanted to use so I could make the images smaller and once printed cut the triangles for the tree (not easy to get the trimming done for the one to be placed beside the image and make it look like it was behind the colouring lol).  Forest Green paper was used to do the die cutting and image mount and then this was all placed on top of my card base which I covered with the original paper which I scanned earlier for one of the trees.  All a bit of a kerfuffle but I did have fun and enjoyed the challenge :)

Take care folks and we will see you all next year.  Stay warm and safe.  Hugs Mimi xxxxx

Challenge #98
Anything Goes with a Bow

This fortnights challenge 'Anything Goes with a Bow' has been chosen by CraftyGirl.

What an epic project this has been.  I have struggled for ages thinking what to do with a bow on it and I really did not feel like making a Christmas card as they are something I don't tend to give out these days.  In all the years I have been on design teams I have never missed a challenge but I was very close to missing this one - the stress was not worth it.  Then last week I was asked to make a Santa Mail box for the Morrisons supermarket in our area and it all fell into place - gold bows on the reindeer.  Sorted and 2 birds with one stone so to speak.  The Mail Box was designed by hubby and me and then I sorted all the graphics.  It was then the super big job of cutting the wood and elements with the laser, sanding, painting varnishing etc.  Three days in the assembly and I finished this 2 days before it was collected by Morrisons ready to go in their store tomorrow (yes, I am writing this post before the post date lol).  To show the size of the box I have taken a photo of my coffee cup beside it, the biggest thing I have made to date and took 10 600mm x 400mm sheets of 3mm birch laser ply to complete it.  The box is double thickness so in effect 2 boxes were made.

Challenge 139
Xmas

Welcome back to the IKEsWORLD challenges :)  do pop on over to IKEsWORLD to join in the challenge, it is always so much fun and  Ike produces the most amazing stamps, everything from off the wall to cute and fluffy :) :) :)

WOW - December already, where has 2020 gone too.  It has certainly been a strange, hard and life changing year so fingers crossed 2021 is much calmer.  Anyway folks, wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  This is the last Ike's World challenge for this year'

For my card I used the image 'Mother', an adorable realistic image of mother and baby that just seeps emotion.  The papers used are Gelli printed and perfect for working with this image on a digital level.  I spent a day a while ago using up lots of A4 paper that I had printed recipes on for attempting to make dinner. The ones that we suitable to be eaten were then transferred to my laptop and instead of throwing all the papers away I raked out the acrylic paint and had a ball lol.  I was so pleased with how they turned out I then scanned them all so I would have a digital version too.  I created the card in Photoshop using several overlay techniques to get the effect I wanted - the image to be clearly visible but at the same time be part of the background.  In the end I added an oil painting effect to the image to give it a different texture.
IKEsART is having a sale throughout December with a massive 60% off - time to grab some awesome digital images folks :)

Knitty Kitty Digis

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'Christmas'
and the sponsor for this challenge is Knitty Kitty Digis with a prize of Prize 3 single images to the winner (or one set).

Oh I did have some fun with this card, nice simple colouring of Snowball Pablo by Knitty Kitty and decorating the scarf to match this fun paper that was so perfect to accompany the penguin digi.   I coloured Snowball Pablo with Promarkes and fussy cut him then placed on the design paper.  All matting was done in red and to match that I created the sentiment in red too.  Nothing fancy or complicated but I think it turned out great :)

Challenge #97
Lots of Pink in December

This fortnights challenge 'Lots of Pink in December' has been chosen by Jennie.

I have had this image from Digital Stamps 4 Joy for ages and never coloured it.  It was won in one of their challenges just before they shut shop, so sad to see them close down as they had some awesome images. The image has been coloured with Distress Inks, a little bit of pencil colouring and stamping on the ostrich too.  Sheena Douglas stencil (from her time at Crafter's Companion) for the background and the sentiment was printed digitally.

Paper Nest Dolls

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'Use 3 Layers'

and the sponsor for this challenge is Paper Nest Dolls with a prize of 3 images from the store.

The image from Paper Nest Dolls I have used for our challenge is Emma With Snowflake Banner.

It is such a long time since I made a tag and this image seemed perfect to make one now.  I cut and embossed my label then used Distress Oxides to colour it and a bit of silver stamp pad for good measure.  For my first layer I added some Christmas snowflake ribbon.  I then coloured my image with Promarkers and fussy cut (removing the end snowflakes as there was not way I could fussy cut them at this size lol).  Emma and the label were then attached as my second layer.  For my final layer I added some peel off sticker snowflakes were were just the right size.  To finish off a silver bow was added and some simple red ribbon.

The Prize for the winner is 3 Digi Images

Challenge #96
Gratitude

This fortnights challenge 'Gratitude' has been chosen by Maggie.

I love Maggie's thinking for this challenge theme as it gave me the 'get out' which I needed.  I don't make Thanksgiving card so when that is the theme it is often a wasted creation for me but by using the word 'Gratitude' instead I was able to make a very useful Thank You card instead.  You are a super start Maggie :) :)

I do love playing with Alcohol markers and have tried them of a few different paper types to see if I could get them to work as Yuppo paper is pretty expensive.  This morning I came across a video, 'how-to create a background with alcohol inks on vellum' by Creationsceecee using vellum.  Just had to have a play and give this a go. Honestly I don't like the effect as much as Yuppo but great fun to do, useful to know and I have loads of vellum which I don't use much so this technique will help use it up lol.  Once the background was created I went down a very simple route of die cutting the flower our of gold card, and stamping the sentiment on more vellum.  A super simple card to make which was lots of fun and very rewarding.  A nice wee addition to my card collection as always needing a thank you card.

White on White

Challenge 138
White on White

Welcome back to the IKEsWORLD challenges :)  do pop on over to IKEsWORLD to join in the challenge, it is always so much fun and  Ike produces the most amazing stamps, everything from off the wall to cute and fluffy :) :) :)

White on White is always an interesting challenge when working with digital images, mainly because we usually use digis for colouring.  For this challenge I chose a simple image BOTTLES Set of 4 (bottle 3) which I knew I could convert to a die cutting file.  Once I had converted the image and created the 'Beautiful Lady' text I sent the file to my die cutter and cut using white vinyl.  I then set to creating the background by stamping flowers and the Happy Birthday sentiment with white ink and then heat embossing with white embossing powder.  To finish off I added some White Lace Stickles over the cutting lines for a bit of extra texture and finally a few dots above the flowers.

Krayzee Katz

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'Add a Ribbon'

and the sponsor for this challenge is IKEsART with $15 prize to spend in the store

For this card I have used an image I love and have used quite a few times, KRAYZEE KATZ, so much fun to colour especially on a day when I really did not feel like anything detailed.  The image was coloured with Promarkers, both alcohol and metallic and then fuzzy cut.  I then decided on a 'strong' background and opted for the burnt orange paper with added black trims.  Had a boo boo here, just when everything was going so well too hahahahaha.  I love the black die cut border and really don't use it enough so today it came out the packet to be played with, just a shame I did not engage my brain.  Grabbing some black paper I used a double sided glue sheet to line the back of the black paper which would make the laying down of the die on the card easier.  Sent it off through the die cutter and then set about trimming the edges expecting the lovely pattern without a border and not even thinking that without the border all the bits would fall out and the border would end up being just a bunch of loose shapes.  Oh I could kick myself for being such an idiot.  Well everything happens for a reason I guess and once I got over my hissy fit I weeded all the bits I did not need out of the die and replace the pieces I did want.  I then peeled off the backing of the sticking paper on the top piece and positioned it still in the die, on my card - perfect.  The process was repeated for each section and it was lovely and easy to line it up perfectly as the die slotted into position on the already placed sections.  Next I stamped my sentiment and cut it out using a tag die, attached it to the card and placed the cats in position.  Finally onto the bow and everything was done.  I just love the way this card has turned out so a happy bunny in the end :) :)

Fairies Elves

International Art & Soul, a challenge which has been put together to incorporate any type of craft, paper, wood, flowers, recycling, glass - the world is your oyster :).  Come on over an join us with you artwork :)

Challenge #95
Fairies and/or Elves

This fortnights challenge 'Fairies and/or Elves' has been chosen by Debbie.

For this card I used a fairy die cut from SVGcuts.com which I have had for years and years lol.  The fairy svg was the welded to the black frame I made and then I added the text which was also welded to both the fairy and the frame.  This part of the designing was done in Illustrator and the file saved as an .svg so I could bring it easily into my die cutting software, Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL).  I wanted this card to be a bit touchy feely so cut the design out using sticky back felt. For the background I used alcohol inks, a bit of an experiment s I used wax paper instead of Yuppo.  Next was a bit of a boo boo but turned out to work well.  I stamped the leaves then the brain cell worked and I realised the ink would not fix well on the waxy paper so sealed with clear embossing powder.  That worked great and also melted some of the wax on the paper.  That got me wondering if the wax would melt enough to hold some silver and enchanted gold embossing powder just gently sprinkled on top - oh yes, that worked a treat and I was able to have my shimmering background too that I really wanted along with all the added texture the embossing powder gives.  As I scanned the card to get the image the sparkle did not show so I took the card outside to see if I could capture the effect - no really but hopefully you get the idea.

Stella Facebook Birthday

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is

 'Birthday'

and the sponsor for this challenge is Bugaboo Stamps with $12 gift code for the Store
I just could not resist using this image :) :) FB is annoying me at the moment, especially with the new changes and I now find myself only looking if I have been tagged or a message sent.  I do try to check out some groups so I can keep in touch but as for scrolling through my wall, well that is just not happening beyond the first few posts.  Image used is Stella Facebook Birthday  I coloured the Image with Pormarkers - Salmon Pink, Baby Pink, China Blue, Baby Blue, Ivory and Blush and for the background I made a mask of the 'f' placed that on my card and used Pan Pastels for the background.  The backing paper is a favourite of mine, I have a few sheets in different colours and it is made from pineapple leaves which I got in Thailand several years ago.  I went with a fairly empty suitcase and brought lots of paper back home with me as I was so cheap there :) Been a great purchase as the sheets are all A1 size, think I must have enough to last me a lifetime of card making lol.

Challenge #94
Halloween

This fortnights challenge 'Halloween' has been chosen by CraftyGirl.  I never know what to do for Halloween as I don't celebrate it but this year I came up with something useful lol.  Hubby recently bought me a K40 laser, it has been a nighmare to get working properly but he is a gem in that department and got it all set up for me - it did take nearly 2 months to sort all the issues of squiff guanty, bad mirrors, aligning mirror issues, fans, new board and software etc. but now I am having so much fun with it the wait has been well worth while.  For this creation I designed the web and used an image of a spider with I traced in Illustrator to change it to a vector image.  When all the design side was done I put my 3mm ply in the K40 who we have named 'The Bitch' and told her to cut it out.  Total awesomeness lol.  Once cut I sanded the pieces then painted with acrylic paint and gave to my grandson to hang up in his house on Halloween.  Fingers crossed the spider with glow in the dark as it was painted with glow in the dark paint.

I had so much fun colouring this image of the Massey Ferguson Tractor from TRACTORS Set of 3, looking at the image before colouring it was a bit daunting but once I got started it all came together brilliantly.  The sentiment and hearts were added digitally when I printed the image, image coloured with Copics and metallic markers for the silver bits in the engine and the hearts.  To finish off a few brad hearts and then simple layering linking up the colours in the tractor.  Such a fun card to make and perfect for Valentine's Day :) :) :)

Cuddly Critter Elephant

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'CAS'
and the sponsor for this challenge is Dr Digi's House of Stamps with a prize of 2 digital images of the winners choice.

CAS cards were something I always used to find very difficult but it seems these days nearly all the cards I make are CAS, I think it is because the images I am using are so fabulous that overly decorating the card seems to distract from them.  For this card I used the image Cuddly Critters Elephant by the awesome Dr. Digi and as it is a CAS challenge I only added the Birthday text for him to sit on.  Coloured with Promarkers - Salmon Pink, Baby Pink, Cool Grey 1 to 5.

Challenge #93
Autumn Colours

This fortnights challenge 'Autumn Colours' has been chosen by Chriss.

I decided to go with the yellows and golds of Autumn more than the browns as I wanted to play with this Dandelion rubber stamp from Crafter's Companion which I have had for a while and not used.  The background was created using Distress Inks and then I added the sentiment in gold stamping and heat embossed it.  Next was the fun part, lots of stamping and masking, not something I am very good at but do so enjoy.  Once the images were all stamped I quickly coloured with Copics, finally I added mica flakes in bronze and gold just to bring a bit of brown into the creation.  The image layer was matted on black then orange and I covered my card base with some beautiful brown and orange wrinkly paper a very good friend gave me several years ago.  What a joy working with this paper as lots of very happy memories came flooding back.  We knew each other while our hubbies were working in Saudi Arabia, she alas, also retired now is back in the USA so we have not seen each other for 4 years.  One day I am sure we will meet up again, until then memories fill the gap :)

Knitty Kitty Digis

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'Use an Animal'
and the sponsor for this challenge is Knitty Kitty Digis with a prize of Prize 3 single images to the winner (or one set).

A cute wee Hi card from me this fortnight using 'Hearnoevil, Seenoevil, Meownoevil' by our sponsor Knitty Kitty Designs.  I coloured the image with Promarkers and then hunted out some geli printed backgrounds I did during a manic moment to used up sheets of printer paper that were for the scrap - oh I do have fun saving things from the bin when I can lol.  I think that day I ended up doing about 40 A4 sheets, got very messy but had a ball :) :) A die cutting frame and letters along with a few gems completed the card,

Foiled Rose

Challenge #92
Tic Tac Toe

This fortnights challenge 'Tic Tac Toe' has been chosen by me.  I have always loved a Tic Tac Toe challenge, just enough to help focus the designing but lots of freedom too.  For this card I chose the right hand column - embossing, a stencil and blue.

I heat foiled the sentiment and the rose which I always class as a form of embossing as an die is used and the text, once foiled, has the feel of debossing.  It is a bit of a shame as the scanning of the image is not showing the metallic effect of the foiling, hope you can imagine the shine though. Next I created the background by first blending in a pretty blue shade of Distress Ink followed by stencilling again with Distress Inks and using a Sheena Douglas stencil and a bit of stamping to give a distressed feel.  For the layering I grabbed a Promaker and quickly went around the edge of a white square I die cut with the darker blue and finally these two layers were placed on the card base which I had back with another blue.

Hippo Badge

At the start of lockdown hubby, knowing we would be in the house for many hours with be among 'The Sheltering' bought a new toy for me to play with, something I have wanted for a long long time but far beyond my budget lol - a laser cutter.  He had found a cheap way for me to add this magical piece of equipment to my crafting items - a K40.  The laser is a small one but will take just over A4 size and due to the cheap price needed a tremendous amount of his time and knowledge with electronics etc. to make it work as it should.  Not a machine for the faint hearted as it really does not work 'out of the box'.  Anyway after his tinkering for about 8 weeks, levelling the bed, strengthening this and that, creating new brackets etc. for the mirrors and a bunch of other things finally it was working like a dream and worth every penny.  So with a new toy I wanted then to try ways of using digis other than just for my card making and have lots of ideas lined up.  One of them is making some layered badges which is what I have done here.  The badge below is cut out of 3 layers of 1mm MDF and then painted with acrylic paint, the digi used is Cuddly Critters Hippo.

In order to have the laser cut the sections I converted the image to a line vector graphic using Illustrator. I then removed all the lines I did not need and changed the colour to red for the lines I wanted the laser to cut deep enough to leave a mark but not deep enough to cut through the MDF.  The black outline is the cutting line.

With the base layer sorted (I should have mentioned earlier that I copied the vector line image 3 times so I had a copy to work with for each layer), I then carried out the same process for the middle layer.

Finally I created the top layer.

With all three layer ready I imported the images into the software I used for the laser, in this case, Lightburn.  I then set the black line to be a full cut sorting out my speed and power %, enough to cut without setting fire to anything lol, and the red lines set to a faster speed and lower power so as to leave a mark but not cut through the MDF.

Once the sections were cut I then glued them together with wood glue and when dry painted with acrylic paint.  To finish off a badge clip was glued to the back.  A great fun project and quite a learning curve but worth it I think :)

Hi There

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
 'No Patterned Papers'

and the sponsor for this challenge is Paper Nest Dolls with a prize of 3 images from the store.

The image from Paper Nest Dolls I have used for our challenge is Sun N Fun Emma, I fancied a flamingo card so just used the flamingo from the image twice.

This is what the full image I took the flamingo from looks like -
Sun n Fun Emma

I coloured the image with Promarkers - Salmon Pink, Cocktail Pink, Baby Pink, Lemon, Mustard and Black.  Next I stencilled the design onto the card as it needed a bit of texturing and as this is a 'no pattern paper' challenge stencilling was one way I could add the texture to the image layer.  Next I added some very pretty lace flowers which I have had for ages and totally forgotten they were in the box, a lovely find lol.  A very simple card but I do love how it turned out and perfect to send to somebody for no other reason than to say 'Hi'

Under the Weather

Welcome back to the IKEsWORLD challenges :)  do pop on over to IKEsWORLD to join in the challenge, it is always so much fun and  Ike produces the most amazing stamps, everything from off the wall to cute and fluffy :) :) :)

Every now and then the brain goes blank on what to do lol - today was one of those days.  In the end I decided to use a couple of different IKEsART images to create this rainbow get well soon card.  The main image for the rainbows I used was from 'Cute Unicorn' - the second image I used was 'Merry go Round' where I removed the roundabout and just used a couple of the clouds.  The rainbow was used several times with each one being resized and rotated a bit in Photoshop and then were coloured digitally, next I added a rain overlay.  I then resized the clouds and added text to them, these too had just a tiny bit of digital outlining and shadowing added to give a dimensional appearance.  I then brought the prepared image into Illustrator, created the scalloped border and added some digital brads.  An all digital creation, quite handy to have on the computer to send to friends as a digital card or to add to a comment in FB :) :)

Challenge #91
Include an Animal

This fortnights challenge 'Include an Animal' has been chosen by Chriss.

For my DT creation I have used a stamp that I have had for a long time, totally love and yet never used until now :)   A fair bit of masking going on as the wolf was stamped first, I then restamped him on a bit of paper to make my mask, also created a mask for the moon and an inverse mask for the moon which was used twice during the card making.  So with the wolf stamped and masked I then used the inverse moon mask to colour the moon with Distress Inks.  Next with the wolf still masked I changed the inverse moon mask for the regular one and created the background again with Distress Inks. Normally I make much darker background but this one I really tried to keep light.  Time to remove all the mask and a quick bit of loose colouring with Copics for the wolf.  Next I decided to stamp a few trees so remasked the wolf and used some tree stamps from the Creative Stampers magazines sets I collect. Finally I remasked the wolf yet a gain and also used the inverse moon mask so I could spray with gold glitter spray varnish, I then removed the inverse moon mask and gave another coat of the glitter spray.   From the same Creative Stampers set I used the Be strong sentiment, stamped and heat embossed with clear embossing powder and attached with raised glue dots. A lovely relaxing card to make :)

Warp Clock

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is
'Use a Die Cut or Punch'

and the sponsor for this challenge is IKEsART with $15 prize to spend in the store

For this weeks challenge of 'Use a Die or Punch' along with Promarkers of course I decided to have a bit of fun during play time.  Honestly, I did not really feel like any detailed colouring, my head would not settle down enough for that so instead a bit of experimenting. The other day I did a background using felt pens and water along with a plastic bag and that was such fun to do so I decided to do something similar with my Promarkers to make the backing paper.  Obviously I could not use water to spray on them but alcohol blending solution works perfectly (Isopropyl Alcohol and glycerine).  Instead of long explanations here are a few pics :

Place the paper on top of the plastic bag and allow it to soak up the ink. I did this 3 times.

The finished piece of A4 paper to be used for the card base and cut out layer.

With the backing paper ready I then stamped and die cut the egg timer and pocket watch, printed my sentiment and Warp Clock digi.  Instead of detailed colouring I air brushed the sections and put to one side while I sorted the cut out layer.

OK, I know this card is a bit off beat but just now I have no idea what the day of the week it is never mind what the time is - everything is out of kilt so to speak.  Think there are a lot of folks who feel the same, we don't know if we are coming or going lol.  Hang in there folks, all will be well in the end.

Just a quick pick to show the tools used to make this card :)

Fiver

Challenge #90
Inspired by a Book

This fortnights challenge 'Inspired by a Book' has been chosen by Josephine.  I am not a great book reader, just can't sit still long enough to enjoy reading and I am not a speed reader by any means.  There are a few favourite authors I enjoy like Jodi Piccult and Val McDermid  and some memorable reads over the years - War and Peace, War and Remembrance, Animal Farm, Watership Down along with Lord of the Rings trilogy.  For my creation this fortnight I have chosen 'Watership Down' by Richard Adams as my inspiration, with the lone rabbit, deep in thought with his dreams being Fiver.  You can read more about the rabbit families trials and tribulations as they find ways to survive here

I designed the top cut out layer which was then cut on my die cutter as I wanted a circle with a mound for Fiver to sit on.  The rabbit and tree branches are stamps are from the Creative Stamper magazine and the wild flowers in the foreground are Sheena Douglas.  Distress Inks were used along to create the backgrounds with a fair bit of masking involved as I built up the layers.  The moon has a coat of Crafter's Companion Silver Glitter varnish which I applied thickly then finished off with a blast across the whole background - the rabbit was masked yet again at this point as I don't think he would appreciate all the bling :)

Floral Thank You

The challenge this fortnight at I ❤️Promarkers is

 'Thank You'

and the sponsor for this challenge is Bugaboo Stamps with $12 gift code for the Store

Oh I just fell in love with this beautiful panel when I saw it and pink with grey just seemed to be the right colours to use this time.  I was itching for the image to arrive as everything else was planned in my head lol.  The image was printed along with the 2 butterflies a second time and coloured with Promarkers both regular and metallic gold.   I designed the floral edge die cut using Illustrator and then saving as an .svg file to be used with my digital die cutter and cutting it out using sticky back black felt.  The top layer butterflies were, once coloured, finished off with Crackle Dimension, shame that is not really noticeable in the pic because the look lovely in real life.  The card base was covered with Mulberry paper and then the image, border die and butterflies were added.  To finish off I used a silver peel off thank you sticker which I coloured black again with my Promarkers and finished off with a coat of Spray and Shine varnish to make sure everything was sealed properly.
