Challenge #94
Halloween

This fortnights challenge 'Halloween' has been chosen by CraftyGirl.  I never know what to do for Halloween as I don't celebrate it but this year I came up with something useful lol.  Hubby recently bought me a K40 laser, it has been a nighmare to get working properly but he is a gem in that department and got it all set up for me - it did take nearly 2 months to sort all the issues of squiff guanty, bad mirrors, aligning mirror issues, fans, new board and software etc. but now I am having so much fun with it the wait has been well worth while.  For this creation I designed the web and used an image of a spider with I traced in Illustrator to change it to a vector image.  When all the design side was done I put my 3mm ply in the K40 who we have named 'The Bitch' and told her to cut it out.  Total awesomeness lol.  Once cut I sanded the pieces then painted with acrylic paint and gave to my grandson to hang up in his house on Halloween.  Fingers crossed the spider with glow in the dark as it was painted with glow in the dark paint.

Challenge #69
Halloween

This fortnights challenge 'Halloween' has been chosen by our DT sister CraftyGirl.  I have to admit I just don't get Halloween at all - I do understand the old meaning of Halloween or All Hallows' Eve and that makes sense to me, a time to think about those who have passed although I think about those who have passed that I know quite regularly not just on one eve of the year.  But - where did the giving of sweets and dressing up in costumes come from, why would a human try to emulate a departed spirit who would have no need for food anyway.  Yep, I am a party pooper but when something makes little sense other than commercialism I see no reason to partake.  I wonder how many kids, if asked what Halloween was, would answer 'ooooooo free sweets'.  I always used to keep a bowl of fruit ready for trick or treaters, they were not impressed and actually did not even want sweets, they wanted money!!!!!!!  Right, enough party pooping and although I found this a really hard card to make I have tried my very best lol.  I used Distress Oxides to create the sky and stamped a tree trunk, leafy tree top and witch.  I then die cut the fence, flower border and cat.  The cat was attached with foam tape for a bit of dimension.  I mounted the image layer onto silver and then black and placed this on my card blank which I covered with mulberry paper.

Trick or Treat

Challenge 49
Halloween

Welcome back to the IKEsWORLD challenges :)  do pop on over to IKEsWORLD to join in the challenge, just remember, you must use and IKEsART image to be eligible for the prize.  Why not pop on over to the store too :), Ike produces the most amazing stamps, everything from off the wall to cute and fluffy :) :) :)

For my creation this fortnight I have used the super fun Halloween image Trick or Treat.  The image was coloured with Promarkers and fussy cut, nice and simple lol. I used the Spellbinder Fancy Lattice and black card, this was then mounted onto some orange card cut using Spellbinders Grand Scalloped Ovals and the excess black lattice trimmed away.  Finally this was then mounted onto a black base also cut with Spellbinders Grand Scalloped Ovals.
It is a shame not to utilise the bits you have lying on your dest so I picked up the trimmed off lattice pieces and placed them on my orange card blank then sprayed with black and metallic spray.  Cool effect when I removed the bits, they made a great stencil :)
Finally, I used a great freaky cat die I have from the Tim Holtz - Mini Cat & Raven Set and covered him in black embossing powder, you can't see him properly in the pic above but here is a over exposed photo to show him to you.  He really makes me think he is freaking out seeing a lady clad in a few pumpkin bits hahahaha.
Finally I added a pumpkin brad and the sentiment which comes with the digi.
For the inside of the card I used the same sprays I used for the card base front, cut a sentiment area using orange card and Spellbinders Grand Scalloped Ovals and I just could not resist using the cut off lattice bits, they seemed to be the perfect finishing touch, hope you agree :) :)

Ingredients:-
  • Image - Trick or Treat by IKEsART
  • Colouring medium - Promarkers
  • Dies - Spellbinders Fancy Lattice and Grand Scalloped Ovals and Tim Holtz - Mini Cat & Raven Set
  • From my stash - Spray inks, pumpkin brad, black embossing powder

Happy Halloween

Welcome back to the IKEsWORLD challenges :)  do pop on over to IKEsWORLD to join in the challenge, just remember, you must use and IKEsART image to be eligible for the prize.  Why not pop on over to the store too :), Ike produces the most amazing stamps, everything from off the wall to cute and fluffy :) :) :)

This was a really hard challenge for me, no matter how hard I try to do dark cards my head gets all muffly and the end result never seems dark.  Mind you I don't like horror movies or even vampire or zombie series (even if they are the comical ones, I just don't get it <g>).  I used to watch horror movies until, funnily enough, my first kid was born and then NNNNnnnnoooooo they were not on my agenda any more.  I tend to fall asleep half way through and then, as I don't know the end of the story, make the rest of it up when I go to bed to sleep and dream land.  My sleep is more important that waking up with palpitations hahahaha.  I do seem to recall a few of the old classics, 'I Don't Want To Be Born', 'Carrie' - oh that flipping hand coming out the ground still sends shivers down my spine, 'The Amityville Horror' and a few others.  Well I guess I sort of based this card on what I remember from these films, blood down the walls from Carrie, when the prom hall wall start pouring blood out was a good starting point hahahaha.

Right there you have my thinking about this creation, now to find the digis to make it work. I opted for two, YAY!!! and  one of the images from the World Tour Series - Greece  pack

To begin with I used a sunset scene and added some bats.  Next I placed the YAY!!! digi (poor wee soul being used like this) and finally the top layer of the Greek house.

Next, just to recover from the image in my head I started on the base layer of the card.  Using orange card which I embossed it with a brick wall embossing folder.
Back to the digis which were coloured with Promarkers
 Promarkers used
Now I must have really been in shock because I have forgotten to take a bunch of pics at this point of what I did grrrrrr.  For the translucent blood effect I used 3D accents and then coloured over when dry with a red Promarker.  Pretty cool with the blood dripping down the window, cobwebs and coming out the spiders mouth hahahaha.  Next I used something I have had for ages and never used, can't even remember what it is called.  It is the plastic stranded stuff that you iron and it turns into a solid form.  Probably not used it as I only own a travel iron and it probably gets used twice a year :)  Anyway, this was used for the cobwebs.  Now for something nice, a bit of quilling, not done any of this for ages either.  Rather like how the spider turned out with his wiggly eyes.
Looking at the card it did not seem to make much sense so a bit of text was needed to bring it all together.  I cut the text in vinyl with my electronic die cutter.
Done and dusted - hope I don't give you nightmares :)
