Challenge #218

Theme 'Anything Goes'

This week I am working with the digi - Treasure Map by Delicious Doodles available in the Stitchy Bear Digital Outlet.

I do feel a bit bad with this image, not having really done it justice.  When making this I was just about to start travelling and time was short.  Anyway, I came up with a plan to leave a pressie for my hubby - a box of chocolates hidden in our bed and the treasure map in a bottle on his pillow <g>.

 

To begin with I had a coffee hahahaha - well not true really, I made a double expresso to use as a dye to age the map which I had printed.

Then I attacked it with a Tim Holtz distressing ink pad.

 I made up a poem for my hubby which I printed and then stuck to the back of the map. I am far from a poet but it is the thought that counts :)  This was then aged the same way as the front.

 Now for some more fun, scrunch it up and make it look really old.

 Finally off to the kitchen to set fire to it over the kitchen sink - I rather enjoyed this bit hahahahaha

 To finish off I put the scrunched up map in a jar, added a label and some raffia.

Now unfortunately I have a confession to make, for the life of me I can find the box of chocolates I bought to go with this map.  I have a sneaky feeling hubby has discovered my hiding place in his sleep and devoured them without his conscious mind in action.  However, as I mentioned above, it is the thought that counts!!!!!!

This week I am working with the wonderful Delicious Doodles image Steampunk Mermaid available from the StitchyBear Digital Outlet.  I found in our local shop the other day these rather cool spiral bound index card booklets, the cards inside are all lined and have perforated edges at the top, perfect for writing notes on and then tearing out when done and dusted or to pass onto a friend if you have written something on it for them. Yep, I do like these hahahaha

To begin with I used a photo of a sunset I took in Australia, on the West Coast up near Carnarvon, Western Australia a couple of years ago.  The uncoloured image was super imposed onto the photo and a quote added "It is impossible to watch a sunset and not dream' by Tattboy, then I printed.  Next I coloured the image with Promarkers.

With that done I took apart the spiral bound book.

Then I place my image on the front cover and remade the holes ready to assemble later.  During a tag swap I was playing along with earlier this week named 'Use a New Technique' I decided to play with texture paste.  Now paste is not available in Saudi so I had to make my own.  After a bit of hunting on the net  I found what looked like a simple recipe on Gabrielle Pollacco site Such a Pretty Mess.  I knew I had white acrylic paint and PVA glue and assumed I had baking soda so this would work for me to try.  Alas I didn't have any baking soda so explored my cupboard and found cornflower instead - it seems to have worked fine :) :) :)   Once mixed I spread the texture paste on the water area of the photo.

 While that was drying I made some copper buttons using copper metal sheet and a die from the Sewing Set by X-Cut.

With the texture paste now dry I airbrushed with Promarkers - I love the way this has really captured the motion of water and waves.  The copper buttons along with another metal button I had in my box with the word - Any Time Any Where written on it were placed in the bottom right corner.

Now to decorate my mini pencil.  I used a shell bead, fishing line and other beads to make the charm and attached this to the pencil with strong adhesive and some copper sheet.  The pencil was coloured with Promarkers and then finished off with Gold Extreme Glitter.

 And here we have the finished project.

 This one shows how the pencil is held in place within the spiral area, a nice snug fit.

Challenge #181 

Theme ' Autumn/Fall'

For this project I used the digi Oriental Flower Corner Set by Teri of Delicious Doodles which is available from the the StitchyBear Digital Outlet. I only used one corner on the card but to make up for that <g> I made a wee box to hold the cold enameled pendant which I had made to go with the card.

First I cut a card blank for the front of the card and then cut the diagonal window out of it.  Next I used gold net material and using spray adhesive attached that to the front base of the card. Next I printed the digi and coloured with ProMarkers.  After fussy cutting and laying on the card I felt it was a bit flat so I used Glossy Mod Podge to add a shiny layer. For the leaves which I layered over the window I used one of the leaves from the die set 'Tropical Leaves' form Cherry Lyn.  Initially I had intended to use embossing powders on each of the leaves in gold, copper and a mixture of the two but I was so impressed with the die and the embossing that I decided it would be a shame to cover the veins up with the embossing powders.  The leaves were attached with glue dots to the sides of the window and in the places they overlapped.  A simple peel off sticker sentiment was added to the bottom right corner.  To assemble the card I used foam tape around the edges and place the front decorated mount on top to give a lovely 3D effect.  The last bit to be done was to create an insert (and I have forgotten to take a pic of that - silly me), which carried the colours from the front decorated areas of the card in a simple graduated and bordered square and attached another of the die cut leaves in chocolate brown to the bottom corner.

I got some enameling powders a wee while ago and have been itching to use them but had no time so I thought I would give it a go and make a pendant to go with the card.  I used a domed copper blank and applied the first layer of enamelling powder and placed in the mini kiln to set.  When the enamel had melted I removed it, let it cool, then added a decorative layer and some Millefiori Glass Flower  Beads and a couple of gold coloured crystal gems.  A final sprinkling of gold and copper enameling powder and back in the kiln for it all to set.  I made a copper split ring and then added a leather thong instead of a silver chain - more in keeping with the rustic look.

Now you can't have a card and pendant to go with it without a box :)  For the box I used my Walnut ProMarkers to colour the inside and outside.  Next I created a mini wrapper using the Delicious Doodles digi which I coloured in the same colours as I used for the card.  There was a spare leaf left from when I prepared the ones for the card so I attached this to the top of the box with a blob of silicone glue so I could angle it.  Three heart gems were added to the front of the box and some braid in brown  and orange was attached to the rim of the lid.  The box was finished off with a couple of coats of Glossy Mod Podge for added strength.

Think that just about sums up what I did <g>

Leather and Lace

Challenge #166

Theme ' Anything Goes'

This week I had to choose a digi  for Ali and I to use from Delicious Doodles and I had my eye on this digi before hand and was over the moon to find out I did not have long before I got to create with it.  The digi is called 'Leather and Lace' by Teri of Delicious Doodles.  Isn't it awesome :)

In keeping with the name of the digi I designed a background paper to resemble rough leather, added black lace and gold netting and finally cut up some leather I had into strips to make the border on the left hand side.  The only thing I am disappointed with here is my camera has washed out all the shading of the woman's face.
