Summertime Blues

I had such a lovely surprise this week when I found I had won 4 digis from 'Sandie's Samples'.  Sandi has some absolutely beautiful digi's so why not pop on over and have a look at her fab creations.  One of the digis I chose was Lady Kathleen, isn't she just divine :)  Thank you Sandi.

For this card I used DP by Papermania, from their Aqua Paper Pack and navy wrapping paper.  The card for the front window area is baby blue hammer.  I covered the card with the Papermania  paper both inside and out then had to put my thinking cap on for the Hammer Blue section.  A couple of months ago I got my Spellbinder cutter and some dies so am very much a learner in this area.  Easy enough just cutting the dies but using the system to build a card shape is a bit more challenging.  I used Marianne Designs Anjas Vintage Decoration for the sides.  When I bought this die I assumed it cut the whole shape so was rather baffled when it left the long straight side uncut.  OK - not a die which is just used to cut a shape, this one is for creating shaped cards too.  I used the die twice, the fist time to the left of the centre square area then to the right so I could fold the sections inwards to give the impression of a door or ornamental gate.  Must admit, I love the outcome but it was difficult to photograph lol.
I printed the digi twice on white paper and coloured one with Promarkers, the other I cut out and used to black out the coloured digi so I could use my spray gun with Tea Green Promarker to create a mottled background which would match the rest of the card. and gold paint, added blue Liquid Pearls, blue and gold flowers and a gold heart to finish off.  Gold line stickers were used to create the metallic division between the four layers of this card.

Copy Cat Mouse

Oh dear, no plan to make cards today but somehow I found myself in my craft room yet again :).  This weeks challenge over at Digi Darla is rather an interesting one, not only are they giving you a free digi of a mouse and flower but they are also challenging you to copy one of the card the DT has made.  Could I resist - NO lol.

Here is my entry into the challenge

I chose to use the DT card by Julie, just loved the blue and brown colour scheme <g>.  My personal challenge was to see just how close to Julie's card I could get to. Not having the design papers Julie used I made my own using Illustrator and to as Julie had used paper with glitter on it I spent a good half hour using Stickles on my to try to get the same effect. I also don't have the Spellbinder die that Julie used but do have the scalloped circles - close enough.  Why I don't have the regular sized circle dies I have no idea, think I need to put them on my shopping list as I can see so many uses for them.  I used ProMarkers to colour the digi and as Julie had made the centre of her flower glittery I had to do the same :)  I used Holographic embossing powder to do this. Next the brads, no don't have any with spots so used plain brown brads and used a white paint pen to add my own dots.  Bisque Liquid Pearls was the nearest thing I had to match Julie's pearls so they had to do.  I must admit, even though I had great fun with this card and enjoyed the challenge of trying to match items up as closely as I could I do feel rather bad copying, anyway, Julie, I hope you feel I have done your wonderful card justice with this 'copy cat' card.

Birthday Candle and Card Set

I was asked to make a card and candle set for a friend's birthday.  I know she is not looking at this blog so can post it without her seeing it:)  Vicki is mad about butterflies so of course the card had to have them on and being into dimensional cards at the moment I have really gone over the top with this one.  Thankfully, it fits into a regular envelope so no need for a box which is just as well as I don't have any and they are not available in Saudi lol.

The inside of the card contains the requested greeting and I used the image from the card and candle here too which I think has really given the finishing touch.

To give the candle a bit of an antique look I have finished off by dabbing special candle safe gold dust then rubbed it in with some kitchen towel.  I am not sure how much I like this, when I look at it sometimes I don't and other times I do.  Hopefully VIcki will like it.  The same gold dust was added at the base of the candle in a thick layer to form a border and I finished off with some candle varnish to protect the creation.

Theme ' Anything Goes'

This week I had to choose for Ali and me from Panda Bear Designs, the final choice was the Education Stations 8.5 by 11 paper pack available from the StitchyBear Digital Outlet.

Having been a teacher in the past to kids aged 9 to 13 in the UK I always felt the subject matter taught was on no use unless the teacher was passionate about what they did and this passion came across during the lesson.  I wonder how many of us can name all the teachers who have played such an important part of our lives, of making us who we are today.  I can recall a few teachers, many came and went and left no impression and of those I remember there are only a couple who I can honestly say gave me their gift of passion for something.  The others I had better not talk about as the memories are very negative!!!!!  Whenever I return home and head out about town I seem to bump into an old pupil of mine even though I left the profession about 8 years ago now.  The kids come up to me and say "Are you Mrs. Bradshaw, you used to teach me" etc.  I guess if they come to speak to me and generally have a laugh and a hug it means I was the sort of teacher who tended the heart and helped shape the positive aspects of the child's character, as we all know, without confidence and self worth no amount of academic ability is of any use.  And so from those beliefs I came up with the sentiment for this card - To teach is to inspire, and you inspire me ......

Victorian Christmas

Thought I would try to make a Victorian card using the Holly GIrl Digital Stamp and Paper Pack from Coosty Creations available through the StitchyBear Digial Outlet. Spellbinder dies were used for the plain circle shapes, cArt_Decorative Oval_Frames for the digi  and sentiment mounts and Impression Obsession Snowflakes for the snowflakes which were cut with cream glitter paper. The digi was coloured with ProMarkers I added blue lace round the two snowflake blue paper circles to give the card a Victorian appearance, then added the glitter snowflakes on top.  The digi and sentiment mounts were finished off with Platinum Liquid Pearls.  The sentiment on the card says, 'This season, the best gift of all is your friendship'.

Wedded Bliss

What an odd day I am having, first a Christmas card in July and now a wedding card just because I felt like make one - not that I know of anybody who is getting married at the moment lol.

For this card I used a Mo Manning digi - Bride and Groom Dancing, such a gorgeous digi don't you agree.  The DP paper used is from Coosty Creations Digital Stamps and Paper Packs called Wedding - the pack has four digi papers which compliment each other beautifully and a digi to go with it.  I added lace at the bottom of the card, somehow a wedding card just needs some lace on it in my opinion.  Next I created the flowers using the die Impression Obsession Layered Floral Set.  For the base of the flowers I used another of the papers from the Coosty Creations Wedding pack, the second layer I used vellum and then I attached both layers together with a brad.  Around the edges of the base layer of the flowers I added silver Stickles and then another Stickles blob on in the centre of each brad.  After colouring the digi I used silver Stickles for the groom's cufflink and button and for the brides head dress.  Opal Liquid Pearls were used for the buttons down the back of the bride's dress, the ribbons and flower trim.  The digi was attached to the card with foam tape and finally I attached the flowers to some sparkly tulle and which was tied at the bottom and a bow added.  This was then attached to the card with glue dots hidden beneath the flowers and bow. Adding the tulle has given this card a lovely dimensional look and I am so pleased with the way it has turned out.

For the inside of the card I used the same Coosty Creations DP paper I had used on the front and then added a couple more layers and the verse 'Best wishes for a day of love and a life of everlasting joy'.

How strange to be making a Christmas card in July but I saw the new Digi Darla challenge so decided to participate :)

I designed the die cut for the shape of this card and cut with my Black Cat.  To accentuate the holly leaves I embossed them with Christmas Green embossing powder.  It is a shame it does not show on the image but I also use Holographic embossing powder on the fur trims of Mr. and Mrs. Clause.  Gold embossing powder was used for Mrs. Clause's glasses.  The DP was designed by me and had a poinsettia embossed overlay. The digi was fussy cut and attached with foam tape for added dimension.  To finish off I used red organza ribbon and green ribbon for the bow and a poinsettia flower from my stash.  Red Stickles were added to the holly too.

The inside of the card also has a poinsettia flower :)

With our challenge theme this week being favourite things I just had to choose a pig digi to work with.  Always having had a soft spot for our very intelligent four legged pals and collecting 'Piggin's' ornaments for several years in the past I will let you know how it all started.  I had only been married a short while and this time was living in Nairobi, Kenya.  Our house was on a corner and was regularly used as a short cut by folks walking around which really annoyed me.  Hubby and I had a couple of dogs but they didn't mind the trespassers so I invested in a piglet who we called Kirsty.  Kirsty was fully house trained in three days, yep intelligent for sure and she continued to live in the house for several more months until she destroyed my kitchen one early morning as I had not given her breakfast in time.  From the house to the outside world she was sent, mind you, she was not far off full grown by this time.  I can hear you asking why on earth would we get a pig as a pet.  All the houses around us had large fences and floodlighting for security but we decided, knowing our native inhabitants were not keen on pigs to get Kirsty instead to ward them off trespassing on our land.  At the same time I let a wee rumor spread that we had been visited by a witch doctor who had put a spell on our land - any trespassers would suffer some hardship etc.  Both ideas, or maybe one or the other certainly worked, all the houses around us were burgled but nobody came near us :)  Alas, poor Kirsty had to find a new home when our daughter was about a year old as she thought she was a dog (no not the daughter, Kirsty), if you scratched her tummy she laid down and rolled over like a dog.  Knowing she weighed rather a lot and our daughter was using her as a walking frame I was a little worried Kirsty would lie on top of Natasha and squash her.  In the picture below you can see Kirsty with me holding Natasha as a new baby on her back.

Now onto my project which of course features a pig.  The digi was created by Stitchy of StitchyBear Digital Outlet called '3 Little Pigs'.  As the name suggests there are three pigs in this set of which I have only used one.  After many ideas on what to create with this fab digi I settled on the text 'Pig Out' and built the project around that.  So, I have created a bag with Pig Out and the digi on the front and covered three bars of chocolate with Pig Out wrappers to go inside the bag.

Ahhhhh - such a cute wee bee, this is a new die I got and I just had to used.  The die is by Elizabeth Craft Designs called 'Bees'.

Theme ' Use A Digi'

It was Ali (my team partner's) turn to choose a digi for us to use in this challenge.  I have to admit, it is really interesting having somebody else choosing the digi for one to use, it really makes you work outside the box.  Ali chose 'Cat Lady' by Pookie Designs available from the StitchyBear Digi Outlet.  When I saw the digi Ali had picked I came across a real blank, I had no idea how to use this digi effectively apart from the ususal which I don't tend to do often.  Sitting at my craft table I had a small piece of the most amazing paper which I picked up in Thailand several years ago.  It is so special I don't use it often :).  Having just finished an order for a friend for money wallets which I had used this paper for the decision was made to also use it for this card and I do love red and black together.  I used gold twine for the lead and added diamond crystals on the cat's collar.  The lady's earrings are pearls.

Yellow Roses

What a naughty person I have been today, I'm sitting at home with quite a few jobs to do and waiting for the washing machine man to appear.  Alas, he has not turned up and it is almost 3 p.m. - how typical is that grrrrrrrr.  As for the the jobs, they have all fallen by the way side as I fancied making a card - yep I wonder how many of us have done the same :)

I thought I would make a easel card for the Digi Darla challenge this week and also combine it with the I ♥ ProMarkers who have a colour challenge on the go (got to be quick it closes in about 3 hours lol).  Having just got some new Spellbinder dies, and only having made easel cards using a die cutter before I thought I would give the Circle Grand Nestabilites a try instead and I am really pleased with the outcome .

I designed the patterned DP which was cut with Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities Scallop Circles along with the yellow layer.  The digi is  Rose Bouquet with Cutout by Digi Darla.  After adding a sentiment to the digi, I over-layed it on the DP and printed.   Two further copies of the digi were also printed.  After colouring with Promarkers I  fussy cut and attach the middle layer with foam tape and the top layer of one rose and sentiment area also attached with foam tape.  The butterflies were cut with yellow and black card using Cherry Lyn Designs Mimi Butterflies.  To finish off I use Spellbinders Ornamental Tag 1 on white paper and coloured with Promarker Cool Aqua to match the top sentiment.

Heavy Metal

Ahhhhhh - a day to do some crafting and vanish into my little world of paper, glue and scissors <g>

I do so love Delicious Doodles digis and often enter their challenge, so today, I have created a card for their Heavy Metal challenge, a bit of fun and very much a challenge:)

Two other challenges I found which I wanted to enter, Bloggers and Polka Doodles required you to make you own background paper.  Time to get messy and see what I could come up with.  Being in the UK at the moment on holiday I don't have many of my crafty items around so I really need to think outside the box to do this.  First I printed the gray background and then I used  a silver metallic paint marker which I have with me. This was dabbed on a plastic bag which I then put my hand inside and paint side down dabbed and rubbed it over the gray paper I had printed.  Rather like the effect, and it really was a bit of fun to do.
 

Next I fussy cut two of the same digi by Delicious Doodles called Celtic Frame 1.  I cut one of the digi images so I could entwine them, giving the imperssion they are united (this is a Silver Wedding Anniversary card so after 25 years the wonderful couple must be two halves of the whole <g>).

The digi's were fussy cut and mounted with foam tape for added dimension.  I printed the sentiment on the top right on the background paper and the lower sentiment on a separate piece of paper which was also mounted with foam tape.  The hearts were created with the die from Joy Crafts called Heart. A bit of lace was used under the bottom sentiment layer and to finish, a heart button also painted with the silver paint and my latest acquisition - Perfect Pearls (know I am going to be using these a lot!!!).

Hello folks.  We have another challenge at One Stitch At A Time so how about popping over to see all the fabulous creations by the design team.

Theme ' More than One Fold' (cards or papers)

This week I had to choose a digi from Ike's Art called Muse 1 which is available from the StitchyBear Digital Outlet.  This was rather a daunting project but once I had got my head around how to do what I envisioned I must admit I had great fun.  The fold sections of the card were cut to form the concertina and the panels which would show were covered in navy angel hair and dark blue embossed vinyl which has a velvet feel to it.  The digi is stunning but did not quite work for my card so to get around the problem of the top of the head being flat I drew a hat which I then covered in blue lace.  With nowhere except the back of the card for a sentiment I created a tag which I attached with a string of pearls, the front of the tag has the birthday sentiment and the back a place to write your own words.  The tag then tucks inside the card.  The digi was coloured with Promarkers but while writing this I am several thousand miles from my bit of paper which I recorded the ones I used :)  I think I used Pastel Blue, Chine Blue and Midnight Blue.  The colouring was done using the Letraset air brush system using ProMarkers.  A metal heart is hidden behind the digi, it can just be seen on the second photo.

Patriotic Bear

Happy 4th of July to all my USA pals <g>

For my card I used a digi from Digi Darla called Patriotic Bear.  The digi has a white background inside the frame so I cut this out and used a photo I took of the sky instead.  The bear was decoupaged, base layer on card background, full bear for second layer and arms and feet for the top layer.  The white background of the card was embossed with Spellbinders Basket Weave embossing folder.  For the flowers I mixed and matched with dies from two different companies.  To finish off I used Liquid Pearls for the flower centres and Gold Stickles for the stars.

New Coosty Creations Digital Stamp and Paper Packs

As some of you may know I design digital stamps and paper packs which are available through the StitchyBear Digital Outlet - Coosty Creations

This pack is for the knitters of the world <g>.  Most of my packs are developed from things in my own life.  This digi is the start of a cardigan my wonderful sister is making for me in white mohair with seed pearls.  The texture papers use images of my sisters knitting.  I know my sister will have such a giggle when she sees this :) :) :)

This pack comes from me searching the net for digi's of sax players and I didn't find many.  Somehow, the thought of a frog playing a saxophone brought a smile to my face, and so the digi was born.

This week the StitchyBear Digital Outlet is having a 25% off sale on all items in the store so what better time to pop on over and see what is available.  Digi stamps cover so many categories, from the super cute to the darker side and everything in-between.

Thanks or taking the time to pop on over today and checking out Coosty Creations.  I am very much a new creator but have been making cards for many years.  The pack I see are created with the advanced card makers to those just setting out.  All elements of the pack can be used individually but for those less confident the pack is designed to be almost self contained, a card can be created with easy but assurance the end result will be very pleasing.  Packs are based on hobbies, events and work environment with plenty to be found which are suitable for men, often our hardest cards to make.
